Privacy Policy

Punctuated Hebrew Bible (Android application, package com.crecker.punctuatedhebrewbible)

This privacy policy describes what information is (and is not) collected when you use the Punctuated Hebrew Bible mobile application (the "App"), how that information is used, and the choices you have. This policy applies to the App as distributed on Google Play.

1. Information collected by the developer

None. The App does not ask for or collect your name, email address, phone number, contacts, precise location, photos, or any other personal information. There is no account or registration, and the developer operates no servers that receive data from the App.

2. Information stored locally on your device

The App stores a small amount of functional data on your device only:

• Your saved favorites (chapters, parashot, or verse ranges).
• Your recent reading history (which chapters or parashot you opened in the App, and when), used for the App's History screen.
• Display and behavior preferences (background color, light/dark theme, app language, verse layout, and similar settings).
• Technical values used by the App itself, for example the time until ads are removed after you choose to watch a rewarded ad, the last time an app-open ad was shown, and simple counters used to decide when the App may ask you (at most rarely) to rate it on Google Play.

This data never leaves your device to the developer. If you set an app language on Android 13 or newer, that choice is also stored by the Android system as the App's per-app language setting. If enabled on your device, Android's standard backup service may back this data up to your personal Google account so it can be restored on a new device; this backup is controlled by you in your device's Google/backup settings.

3. Advertising (Google AdMob)

The App displays ads using Google AdMob (Google Mobile Ads SDK). The App shows banner ads, an occasional app-open ad, and an optional rewarded ad that you can choose to watch in order to remove banner ads for 24 hours.

To serve and measure ads, prevent fraud, and enforce frequency limits, Google and its partners may automatically collect certain data from your device, which may include:

• Your device's advertising ID (the App declares the Android AD_ID permission for this purpose).
• Your IP address, which may be used to estimate your general (coarse) location.
• Device and technical information, such as device model, operating system version, language, and mobile network information.
• Ad interaction data, such as which ads were shown and whether they were viewed or tapped, and related diagnostics.
• On supported Android versions, signals used by the Android Privacy Sandbox advertising APIs (Topics and Attribution), which the App declares permissions for so Google's Mobile Ads SDK can use them where available, as an alternative to identifier-based advertising.

This data is collected and processed by Google under its own policies. The developer does not receive or store this data. For more information, see:

Consent (EEA, UK and Switzerland)

For users in the European Economic Area, the UK, and Switzerland, ad partner consent choices are presented and managed through Google's consent messaging tools, in line with Google's EU User Consent Policy. You can change your consent choices at any time from that message, or by resetting your advertising ID and ads personalization in your device settings as described below.

Your advertising choices

• On Android you can delete or reset your advertising ID and opt out of ads personalization: Settings → Privacy → Ads.
• If you delete your advertising ID, ads will still be shown but will not be personalized using that identifier.
• Inside the App, you can remove banner ads for 24 hours by choosing to watch a rewarded ad. This choice is entirely optional.

4. Google Play services: app updates and rating requests

The App uses Google Play services for two optional, user-facing flows:

• In-app updates - the App asks Google Play whether a newer version of the App is available, and downloads it if you approve.
• In-app review - occasionally, after you have used the App for a while, the App may ask Google Play to show the standard Google Play rating dialog, so you can rate the App without leaving it. Whether the dialog is actually shown is decided by Google Play, and submitting a rating is entirely up to you. The App itself only keeps simple local counters (described in section 2) to make this request rare and non-intrusive.

Both flows are handled by Google Play under the Google Privacy Policy. The developer receives no personal data from either flow; ratings and reviews you choose to submit are managed by Google Play and appear as they normally do on the App's store page.

5. Permissions used by the App

• INTERNET - required to load ads and check for app updates.
• ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE - lets the App and the ads SDK know whether a network connection is available.
• com.google.android.gms.permission.AD_ID - allows Google's advertising SDK to use the device's advertising ID, as described in section 3.
• ACCESS_ADSERVICES_AD_ID, ACCESS_ADSERVICES_ATTRIBUTION, ACCESS_ADSERVICES_TOPICS - declared by Google's Mobile Ads SDK to use the Android Privacy Sandbox advertising APIs where available, as described in section 3.

The App does not request access to your location, camera, microphone, contacts, storage/files, or any other sensitive permission. The Bible text itself is bundled with the App and displayed locally - the App loads no web pages of its own.

6. Data sharing

The developer has no user data to share or sell. The only third party that processes data in connection with the App is Google (AdMob / Google Play services), as described in sections 3 and 4, and only for the purposes described there.

7. Data retention and deletion

• The developer retains no user data at all.
• Your reading history can be cleared at any time from inside the App ("Clear history" in the App's menu), and favorites can be removed individually in the Favorites screen.
• All locally stored data (favorites, history, and settings) can be deleted at once by clearing the App's data in your device settings or by uninstalling the App. Uninstalling stops all activity by the App, including ad requests.
• Data collected by Google for advertising is retained and deleted according to Google's data retention practices.

8. Security

The developer does not transmit or store your data on any server, which removes the most common privacy risks. Communication performed by Google's SDKs (ads, updates, the rating dialog) is encrypted in transit by Google.

9. Children

The App is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under the age of 13. The developer does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information in connection with the App, please contact the developer at the address below so it can be addressed.

10. Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example, in the European Economic Area under the GDPR or in California under the CCPA/CPRA), you may have rights regarding personal data, such as access, deletion, and objection to processing. Since the developer holds no personal data about you, such requests regarding advertising data should be directed to Google using the links in section 3. You are always welcome to contact the developer with any privacy question or request.

11. Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated from time to time, for example when the App gains new capabilities. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
